I recently was out to dinner at a local restaurant in New Tampa called Ciccio’s Cali. Normally, before I go out to dinner, I check the menu out so I am prepared with how and what to order. Not every place can accommodate a gluten free diet, however Ciccio’s Cali was more than accommodating.
If you have ever been to California, you would know that they are big on bowls…dishes combining protein with veggies and sauces with some sort of grain like rice, noodles, or spaghetti squash. On the menu were dishes that were like a taco in a bowl, pad thai in a bowl, and so much more. Most of them were gluten free…and if they weren’t, they were able to make a change or two and make one gluten free just by subbing out one or two ingredients. I have to say that the staff at the restaurant was incredibly knowledgable of the food being served there, and especially sensitive to people that thrive on a gluten free lifestyle. They were able to answer any and all of my questions, and best of all, did it with a smile. After my inquisition, I decided on the Half Moon Fish Taco. I asked about the tortilla strips being corn or flour, and they were, indeed flour, so I simply requested to omit them. Can I tell you how delicious it was?! Unreal with flavor and texture, with eat bite packing a punch of deliciousness.
As I sat outside in the tropical-like setting, listening to a live band play, I was enthralled at the experience I was having with my husband and daughter. It was a perfect Friday night meal.
I am a big believer in having an experience while out to dinner. The customer service at this restaurant was amazing! The manager actually told us about the gluten free cupcakes that they have there, and without hesitation bought us one to try out. Talk about going above and beyond! I will definitely be back, and I highly recommend you give it a go yourself. I promise you will not be disappointed.
