We all have those days when we are so busy that we barely have time to breathe. Days that pull us in to the activities, and chaos that life tries to absorb us with, but we don’t submit to it. We cart the kids around. Food shop for the family. Sprawl around the mall searching for the right clothes, shoes, etc. All the while not thinking about what we should be giving our body while we are putting it to work or play.
How often do you shove those mall pretzels down your throat without thinking about the calories, fat, or how your body will accept it, or reject it, for that matter? You know, the ones drenched in butter or cinnamon sugar? Visiting the vending machines is many times included in a trip taken while out. Even taking a trip through the drive through at the closest fast food restaurant like McDonald’s, Burger King, Taco Bell, or any of the other crap food places around begins to take a toll on you.
So, how do you make sure to eat the right food while you are out and about? It’s all about planning, and having the right mindset. It is super easy to stuff a bag of chips or goldfish into your bag, all of which is either horrible for you or not gluten free. It simple to munch on a bag of cookies, even if they are gluten free. But will that help you stay energized and healthy? NO! I am sure that most plans you have are planned in advance. So, why not pack healthy, gluten free snacks in advance, too, so you can be on the go healthy, full of energy, and without compromising the dietary lifestyle you need to be true to? It takes a little while, but it is so worth it. You may need to give yourself some prep time, and time for food shopping. The time you do give yourself, however, will all be worth it.
With that said, here is a list of ways to making being on the go easier, healthier and less stressful…all it takes is a smile and a little bit of time, all packed in small ziplock baggies and/or containers:
- cup up apples with almond butter
- raw almonds, cashews, walnuts, and sunflower seeds
- celery stalks cut into 3-4 inch sticks with almond butter
- fresh popped popcorn with little seasalt
- protein bars like NuGo bars, KIND bars, LARABAR
- You can stop at Fitlife Foods (located in Florida) to grab a healthy snack or a prepared fresh meal
- A bag of red or green grapes detached form the stems
- homemade crisp chickpeas with seasoning
- cut-up peppers, carrots, cucumbers with homemade hummus
- hard-boiled eggs
If you ave any other ideas, please feel free to send me a message and I will add it to this list. Of course we are always looking for more ideas! Happy snacking!!!!
